Chuck's Sports Bar Design Proposal
This site was another project designed to show a local bar what
we could do for them online. They had a site but the person that
made it no longer worked there, and they were unsure if the site
even existed anymore. Further research proved that the site was
no longer online, and they would need to have a new one designed
if they wanted to maintain an online presence. We took the time
to put this page together along with showing the owner examples
of other work we had done. We even put copies on their computer
system so that they could view it at their leisure. Time went by
and we have not heard back from them. At this point we must assume
that they have changed their mind about having an online presence.
The thought process for this business was a little
rough at first, but then we put ourselves into a potential customer
point of view and started asking questions that we would want answered
if we were looking for something like this online. Directions were
the first thing that came to mind. Further thought brought the questions
of what kind of food and beverages did they have. After that, things
began to flow fairly easy. We started out with a modified restaurant
type of idea. From there, we added the events list, a scrap book,
employee bios, and a history of Chuck's itself. The owner had actually
done some research to find out what had been housed at Chuck's building
prior to it becoming a Sports Bar.
The TV show Cheers popped to mind on this one, but
it needed a twist. The design needed something that prompted people
to come back to the site, and back to the bar. That is where the
idea for the events list came to mind. We expanded that further
with the scrapbook section as an enticement for camera hams. We
had planned to show up at Chuck's with digital camera in hand on
nights that there was entertainment available. We had even planned
on making photo release forms available so that people could sign
the releases there so that if we would use a photo online Chuck's
was covered.
Since this is a sports bar, we knew we would have
to include sports type images. We took the time to go into Chuck's
and take pictures of stuff that they have on their walls. They draw
a large Nascar following, and also have a lot of people that come
in to watch hockey. They have a large screen projection TV on premises,
and have also been known to get pay per view wrestling events.
The employee bio area was intended to give people
a feel for the bartenders and staff. Needless to say, Chuck's became
a home away from home for us for a while. We wanted to find out
what made Chuck's appealing to the people that already frequented
the place. We also wanted to get to know the bartenders and staff
to help design the feel of the site. By knowing the atmosphere at
the bar we planned on finding ways to convey that in an online presence.
Although we realize that the average person usually
doesn't go online to look for a bar to visit, we thought about other
ways the site could be used in order to help the bar recoup the
investment in an online presence. We thought that present customers
coming in would be inclined to visit the site just to see if their
pictures popped up during one of the entertainment events. We also
thought that present customers would like the ability to check daily
or weekly specials, or the event area to see if they wanted to drop
by.
With that came the idea of possible affiliate programs
that could be implemented throughout the site. If customers were
going to come online and check the site for entertainment dates
and specials, why not strategically place banners that they could
click on and add another revenue stream to the bar's profit center?
If someone from Florida visited the site, it was obvious that they
probably were not going to drop by. Why not add the ability to benefit
from their visit by making links available for them to click that
could still allow the bar to make money?
We have mentioned it before in areas on the site.
We think outside the box. We tend to overshoot so that we are sure
we hit our mark. Think big, win big. Think small, win small. We
don't know about you, but we'll take big any day. We added the contact
area to give credibility to the bar. Granted that credibility might
not be as important for the bar as it is for a company that is going
to offer its goods or services online and expect a customer to pay
online for them, but credibility is still an important factor for
any business. Credibility is what builds a foundation for trust.
People have to believe and trust in your ability to deliver what
you say you are going to deliver to them. If they can not feel comfortable
and trust you, then chances are that they are not going to buy from
you.
